National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his co-principal Isaac Ruto and some Jubilee Party (JP) leaders yesterday shared a podium during the funeral service of former Nyanza Provincial Commissioner Isaiah Cheluget at Kusumek village in Bureti sub-county, Kericho county yesterday.
The Jubilee Party leaders used the occasion to drum up support for the re-election President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in the August 8 General Election while Governor Ruto urged the Kipsigis community to back Raila and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka for bright Kenya.
The Jubilee leaders present included Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, senators Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso who is also eyeing the Bomet governor’s seat and Bureti Jubilee nominee Japheth Mutai, among others.
Raila said he does not oppose government projects without proper reasons. He hit out at Jubilee top leaders for attacking him that he was bent on only opposing the developments without giving valid reasons.
“It is not true that I am opposing development projects without giving valid reasons as it is being peddled by my political detractors in the government. I do so after consulting experts and weighing merits and demerits of such projects.
I want to state here categorically that any leader who opposes development projects that benefit people on flimsy or political reasons is a mad man or woman,” he said.
The Nasa flag bearer was referring to the Itare Water Dam project which he said he opposed after meeting and consulting experts. He said he has not politicised the project as Jubilee leaders have been saying.
Jubilee leaders on their part told the Kericho people to back re-election of the President and his deputy William Ruto arguing that, Uhuru’s administration has brought development to every region in Kenya.
