The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has suspended demonstrations for one week to allow county governments to enforce an agreement reached by the parties on Saturday.
The deal will see the health workers start receiving their allowances by end of this month.
“We hereby suspend the countywide demonstrations for one week ending on March 2, 2017 to give counties time to effect payment of the same and for the Council of Governors and Ministry of Health to have finalised modalities on the call allowance,” a statement from KUCO said.
According to a letter signed by the union general secretary George Gibore, the parties agreed that the county government will start paying the health workers service allowance, including the arrears from January at the end of the month.
