The National Police Service (NPS) yesterday issued a terror alert but assured that security agencies have heightened surveillance across the country.
NPS spokesperson George Kinoti said police have thwarted several attempts by al Shabaab insurgents to infiltrate the country. He said the militants have been changing tack by forming smaller groups for easy infiltration into the country.
He singled out Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu counties as the most prone areas because of the porous Somalia border. “We are also aware that al Shabaab are planning to amass its militants in Jedahaley area in Somalia, with the intention of infiltrating into the country for attacks.
Some of them are hiding in small groups pretending to be herders around Hida and Dambala in Somalia while plotting to sneak into the country,” he said.
