Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is contemplating taking action against those responsible for the chaos that marred its rally in Homa Bay last weekend, party national chairman John Mbadi has disclosed.
He said the party will conduct thorough investigations into the incident and take appropriate action against those found culpable. The party, he said, does not condone political violence and told those aspiring for various elective seats on its ticket to desist from acts of hooliganism.
“It is quite unfortunate that our rally that was deemed to be peaceful throughout turned chaotic. We will investigate and ensure that those responsible are dealt with accordingly,” Mbadi told the People Daily on the phone.
Speaking separately, the party chief executive officer Oduor Ongwen said investigations into the incident have started adding that already they have identified eight people, who would face the party’s disciplinary committee.
He said the names would be submitted to the ODM National Elections Board (NEB) for possible disciplinary action including being barred from using its ticket in the upcoming elections.
Chaos broke out at the rally that was attended by the party leader Raila Odinga on Sunday at Homa Bay Stadium after supporters of area governor Cyprian Awiti and Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga clashed.
