A 38-year-old man accused of sodomising minors was arraigned in Kigumo law courts yesterday. Enoch Mwangi from Igikiiro village in Maragua, Murang’a pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him. However, only one case out of the eight alleged victims was presented.

Mwangi was charged with two counts, one for anal penetration and the second one for infecting the 14-year-old boy with HIV virus. Defending himself, the accused said he did not sodomise the boy, adding that he was only a friend to him and his mother.

Mwangi, who appeared before senior resident magistrate Agnes Mwangi, was given a Sh400,000 bond and a surety of similar amount. The hearing is set for December 21 and a mention on October 3 . Mwangi was arrested on Sunday after locals raised an alarm following the confession of one of the victims.

Elsewhere, a woman wept before a magistrate and law enforcement officers as she narrated the tribulations she has gone through in pursuit of justice for her daughter embroiled in a legal tussle with her husband over the custody of their children. Agnes Nzau, who could not hold back tears, accused police of harassment on the pretext of enforcing a court order to enjoin her twin grandchildren with their estranged father.

She threaten to strip naked if Kitui Central Police Chief Kennedy Onsando, who was present, does not restrain his officers from ransacking her house looking for her daughter Abishag Mutanu, who is in hiding with the children after the court made ‘unfavourable’ judgment.

“I do not know what to do as whereabouts of my daughter and her two children. Should I take my life because I have suffered enough?’ she posed.

She made the revelations during a court users committee (CUCs) forum at Kitui Law Courts that was attended by the law courts magistrates including the one who delivered the judgement, senior police officers, Prisons officers, officers from the children department and international Commission of jurists ( ICJ) members.

“I am aware a court order was issued after the defendant failed to see the children as granted by the court but because the matter is taking a different direction, we will investigate further,’’ said Onsando.
