Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama yesterday failed to record a statement at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over hate speech charges.
He maintained that the remarks he made in Busia during the homecoming rally of Busia Women’s Representative Florence Mutua is not in breach of NCIC Act. Muthama, who was accompanied by his Siaya counterpart James Orengo, accused the government of unfairly targeting him in the purge against hate mongers.
“I am a true nationalist who has employed people from different communities of this country and no one can accuse me of being tribal,” he said shortly after visiting the commission headquarters at Upper Hill, Nairobi.
Orengo blamed the commission for being used by the Executive to target political leaders from the Opposition. “The commission should conduct its operations fairly and be able to differentiate between hate speech and fair comment,” he said.
