The University of Nairobi (UoN) has now given in to pressure and agreed to make drastic reforms on Sonu leadership.

In a statement last evening, Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi said the university senate had, among other measures, put a limit to the tenure of Students Organisation of Nairobi University leaders.

And to reduce the tension and controversies that stalk students’ elections, the university has also reduced stakes or benefits to office bearers.

“The senate recommended the appointment of a committee to review the Sonu constitution...to make the student organisation more accountable,” said Prof Mbithi. UoN was closed indefinitely last month following protests over disputed elections.
