Endebes MP Robert Pukose has said he will not vote for the two-thirds Gender Bill saying it will raise the number of legislators at a time when the country’s wage bill is skyrocketing.
Speaking yesterday in his constituency after launching a football tournament, Pukose said given the country’s economic condition, it is wrong to add the number of parliamentarians.
“We cannot allow this bill to pass as it will bulge the country’s wage bill. What Kenyans want is few MPs and that is what we are going to do, bring the bill down since it’s not friendly to our current economy,” he said.
The MP urged stakeholders to come up with effective ways of ensuring that women are included in the development of the country without straining the economy.
“It is true that women have been left out in the running and development of our country but let us not rush in passing laws that will affect us in the long run,” he said.
At the same time, Pukose slammed Cord coalition for pushing for the removal of IEBC commissioners.
“Cord has perfected the act of threatening institutional bodies, from the Judiciary to now IEBC. That will not be allowed as it is against the Constitution,” he added.
