President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday embarked on a vote-hunting mission in the National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s stronghold to seek votes for his re-election ahead of next month’s poll.
Accompanied by his deputy William Ruto, Uhuru urged Homa Bay and Kisumu residents to support his bid to enable him complete projects he has initiated. The President first commissioned the Sh1 billion Mbita Causeway bridge before addressing local residents.
Homa Bay governor Cyprian Awiti, Senator Moses Kajwang and Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo, however, skipped the function that was only attended by Karachuonyo MP James Rege.
“Mimi najua niko na kura hapa na nyinyi kama wengine mtatuunga mkono ili serikali ya Jubilee iendelee na maendeleo (I know I have support here and just like others, you will support me and the Jubilee government so that we can finish the projects we started),” said Uhuru.
At the same time, Uhuru promised that the government will construct more roads in Homa Bay including the Rusinga Island ring road and Mfangano road.
He later on commissioned the expansion of Katito-Kisii road that has been funded by the African Development Bank before addressing a stopover rally at Ahero junction.
Later, Uhuru attended the ground breaking ceremony for a new brewery in Kisumu town estimated to cost Sh15 billion. He said the new plant will employ more than 100,000 youth and give opportunity to sorghum farmers in the region to sell their produce.
