Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze’s statement which sought to clarify his purpoted support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election has caused divisions in the Wiper Party with Members of Parliament split on whether his ticket should be withdrawn by the party.
Yesterday, seven MPs from Ukambani region defended Nyenze saying he was misquoted and should not face punishment from the party. But their Matungulu counterpart Stephen Mule broke ranks and called for disciplinary action against the MP.
“It is unfortunate that my colleagues are sugar coating Nyenze’s statement. He was categorical that he is working for Jubilee hence stern action should be taken against him,” he told a press conference at Parliament buildings.
The Wiper MPs who spoke before Mule defended Nyenze and Kitui Senator David Musila on remarks that were interpreted to mean that they had shifted from Nasa to Jubilee. “The two leaders, who are high ranking members of the Wiper Party, were clearly misquoted,” said Kathiani MP Robert Mbui.
