As the dust settles on the party primaries, some candidates who won are now waiting to be sworn in office because they don’t have opponents in the August 8 poll.

Top on the list is Nandi Senator Stephen Sang who won against veteran politician Henry Kosgei and former Cabinet secretary Felix Koskei to win the gubernatorial seat. In Nakuru, County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika clinched the Senate seat.

Kihika won by a landslide beating veteran politicians Koigi Wamwere, Njenga Mungai and Nairobi-based businessman-cum-lawyer Karanja Kabage. She garnered slightly over 270, 000 votes while her closest challenger, Kabage managed 49, 000.

Susan, a lawyer, is daughter of former Nakuru North MP Kihika Kimani. Former finance minister Amos Kimunya made a comeback after beating incumbent Samuel Gichingi in Kipipiri constituency.

The former minister lost the seat in 2013. In Nyandarua, Faith Gitau who won Jubilee Party Women’s Representative seat is also waiting to be sworn in because she also doesn’t have a competitor in the August poll.

Meanwhile, women politicians in Nakuru scored big in the just-concluded Jubilee Party primaries. Apart from Speaker Kihika whose win made her the first elected Senator ahead of the August poll, other women reaped in the parliamentary positions.
