It is a dicey day, today, for Opposition entity, the National Super Alliance (Nasa), whose leadership has promised the long-delayed unveiling of its presidential line-up at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.
The foursome vying for the two positions are former vice-presidents Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Party), Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) Bungoma Senator Moses Masika Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) and Raila Amolo Odinga of (ODM). A fifth principal of the team – now known as Pentagon – in the person of Bomet Governor Isaac Kiprono Ruto of the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) who joined Nasa only last week, is not seeking the presidency.
Nasa supporters have been asked to go to Uhuru Park this morning expecting the announcement of a captain to steer the Opposition ship to the August 8, General Election.
It is understood a 12-member taskforce working out the flagbearer issue came out with 12 possible scenarios in advancing a case for a Nasa flagbearer, out of which only three were found as soundly plausible and from which today’s unveiling of the Team Nasa captain and deputy is expected to be drawn.
The three proposals identified as practically workable and which the Nasa committee of experts and party appointees has been juggling with are said to be Mudavadi-Kalonzo, Kalonzo-Mudavadi or Raila-Kalonzo.
Reasons pegged on ethnicity and regional balance forced the mediators to unreservedly hurl into the dustbin any arrangement that includes Wetang’ula, Raila and Mudavadi on the same ticket. What now remains to be seen today at Uhuru Park event is whether Kalonzo is the real deal or another aspirant’s runningmate.
