Weather experts have been asked to conduct more research aimed at mitigating disasters caused by climate change.
Environment and Natural Resources Cabinet secretary Judi Wakhungu said the aftermath of climate change-related impact was great but can be reversed if experts continue researching on early warning signs and come up with effective mitigation measures.
Speaking at the Kitui meteorological station during the World Meteorological Day, Wakhungu said scientists need to understand the role played by clouds in regulation of the earth’s energy balance hence need for continued research for effective warning systems.
“Clouds are central to weather observations and forecasts and to avoid inconveniences, early warnings given to people should be perfect to avoid wastage when farmers get negative results,’’ she said.
Wakhungu asked county directors of meteorology to use facilities in their disposal to provide the vital weather information to the community they serve.
