Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has been nominated as the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) representative of the African region to the Expert committee.
In a letter by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association secretary general Akbar Khan, Muturi will be in the team that has been tasked to implement changes which aims to transform the association and broaden its mandate.
The CPA wants its mandate increased to cover democracy, human rights and the rule of law, monitoring national elections of member states, personal security exchange of ideas including the contribution by women and the youth in the democratic process.
He said that it was against this background that the CPA expects Muturi to ensure that the Africa Region’s views are fully ventilated before the Expert Committee.
