Governor Nderitu Gachagua’s younger brother has hit out at area leaders terming them insincere mourners.
Rigathi Gachagua said those who are now speaking of his brother’s “outstanding character and unmatched political legacy” ought to have done so to his face when he was alive.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the new governor Samuel Wamathai, he called it ironic that those who were most opposed to his brother were now “suddenly realising he was a good leader who meant well for the people of Nyeri”.
Rigathi, who recently expressed his desire to vie for Mathira Parliamentary seat, addressed Nyeri Assembly Speaker David Mugo accusing him of shedding crocodile tears.
The Speaker had described Gachagua as “a towering figure of great personality”, adding that he was the fulcrum in which Nyeri politics revolved, thereby mourning the loss of a brilliant leader.
“I only wish you told governor Gachagua those good and kind words when he was alive so that he would know the truth,” he said amid cheering from the gathering.
