Kenya lauds ECOWAS for intervening in Gambian crisis

Kenya has joined other countries in congratulating the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for intervening to resolve the Gambia political crisis.

In a statement to newsrooms, Kenya called on the regional bloc to ensure a bloodless transition between the newly-sworn in president Adama Barrow and outgoing Yahya Jammeh, who has refused to relinquish power and vacate office after losing in elections.

“Kenya expresses solidarity with ECOWAS and calls for a speedy and bloodless end to the crisis in the Gambia.

We congratulate the New President H.E. Adama Barrow and wish him well as he takes over the reigns of power in a sisterly country.

It is a historic milestone in our collective history and reaffirms the commitment of Africa to take responsibility destiny and deepen democracy and the Continent,” read the statement. EDS/MK/020/001/017
