Mau Mau War Veterans Association has denied any links with Opposition leader Raila Odinga ahead of 2017 General Election.
Addressing the press in Nyeri yesterday, national chairman Duncan Mwangi Kariuki alias General Matenjagwo said they are not backing the Cord leader and are fully behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
“We are not supporting Raila as indicated in some media outlets, we are behind Uhuru and we together with our children will vote for him, those fake groups purporting to support Raila are imposters who are not freedom fighters,” he said.
He said the group which met the Opposition leader at a hotel in Nyeri were self seekers out to con him and do not represent the views of freedom fighters who have registered association. Mwangi accused Raila of criticising Jubilee administration leadership yet his governors and MPs are perpetuating corruption.
“We want to register our displeasure of constant criticism of Jubilee administration, we fought for this country’s independence and as such, we want Raila to respect the institution of presidency as the symbol of unity,” said Mwangi.
Some freedom fighters in Kieni had been quoted in a section of the press saying they will vote for Raila because the government has failed to allocate them land forcing them to live as squatters in their own country.
