Six legislators affiliated to Jubilee have accused Meru Governor Peter Munya of trying to scatter Jubilee votes in Mt Kenya East bloc.
Led by senators Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and Kembi Gitura (Murang’a), the lawmakers said the move by Munya to join PNU is a clear indicator that he is trying to ruin Jubilee’s popularity in the region. Gitura urged residents to support Jubilee Party and the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta next year and his deputy William Ruto election 2022 polls.
Support Jubilee
Accompanied by MPs Mithika Linturi (Igembe South), Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), Mwiti Irea (Imenti Central) and Women’s Rep Florence Kajuju in Timau yesterday, the lawmakers accused Munya of hypocrisy and hostility to the government.
“You cannot say you support re-election of Uhuru come 2017 while you are busy selling another party, that is being a hypocrite,” said Kiraitu.
“Tribal parties have no place in Kenya today and Munya has lost the plot by being a PNU leader because he is going nowhere with the lone party, Jubilee is the only strong outfit that will form the next government,” added Kiraitu.
He further called on Munya to drop the 2022 presidential bid saying it is a ‘doomed dream’ aimed at sabotaging Ruto votes. “Seeking the top seat in the country is not a joke, Munya thinks that looking for presidential votes is just like going around the street of Meru,” said Kiraitu.
Expressing confidence that he will oust Munya and take over the Meru governor’s seat next year, Kiraitu was lauded by the legislators as the only sober leader who can steer steady developments in the region.
“I am not seeking the governor’s seat because I am greedy but because I have a dream of making Meru great and those telling you that I am old they are misleading you because my age is just a number and it cannot stop me from performing and bringing tangible development to the people of Meru,” he said.
