Hundreds of taxi operators in Nyeri town yesterday demonstrated following the brutal murder of their colleague over the weekend by carjackers.
Waving twigs and placards the operators demanded enhanced security in the town claiming that many of them were losing their lives in the line of duty.
The operators had earlier combed Kabiruini forest together with area MP Easter Murugi after their colleague’s car was discovered with blood stains in Nakuru.
Speaking to the press outside Outspan Hospital morgue operators chairperson Luka Mathenge said the deceased Charles Kinyua, whose badly mutilated body was discovered inside solio ranch, received a call on Saturday evening from a customer who wanted to be ferried.
Call for vigilance
Nyeri county commissioner Onesmus Musyoki who condemned the killing, urged the operators to be more vigilant and asked them to avoid carrying more than one passenger at a time, especially at night. Murugi called for beefing up of security saying it’s unfortunate that innocent people are being murdered.
