The High Court in Nakuru has extended orders barring the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) from implementing new rules targeting driving schools until a case filed before it is determined.

Driving school owners association had moved to court through lawyer Jay Githui seeking to block the implementation of the rules.

Under the new rules, driving schools are required to have at least 1.7-acre training yard, a classroom measuring eight by six meters, the replacement of traffic police by civilians as examiners, and a comprehensive insurance cover for vehicles.

“If these rules are implemented, most driving schools will be forced to close down,” said Githui. In a sworn affidavit, association chairman John Mwatha accused NTSA of planning to introduce new rules without involving them.
