Even as Americans went to vote yesterday, a mock election thousands of kilometres away in US President Barack Obama’s ancestral village of Kogello had already picked Hillary Clinton as the 45th POTUS.

In the mock poll, Clinton trounced her Republican rival with a convincing 79 votes to 11 in the contest sponsored by the Beaten Comedians. “In the overall results, Clinton won with 70 per cent of the vote,” said Lawrence Oyange alias Ja Kakamega, the mock elections presiding officer.

The election that started at around 11am was, however, snubbed by Obama’s grandmother Sarah Obama. Sarah, who had ealier expressed willingness to participate was reportedly stopped from doing so by her daughter Marta who questioned the motive behind the exercise.

“Even if they had discussed with Mama on the issue and she accepted, we are not going to let her as family,” she said. But speaking during the graduation ceremony of Pendeza nursery pupils, Mama Sarah wished Clinton the best.

“As the family of Obama, we are happy and praying for Clinton to beat Republican presidential Candidate by far. We want her to lead by a big margin,” she said.

She asked Clinton to continue with Obama’s development agenda if she is elected, urging her not to forget the vulnerable and under-priveleged in the world. (More stories on page 6)
