Tension is brewing in Woodley Estate, Nairobi after a welfare organisation raised an alarm over what it  said was a plan by the Nairobi County government to evict residents.

The Woodley Residents Welfare Society yesterday claimed 27 houses have been illegally allocated to close relatives and officials of senior officials at City Hall.

“Legitimate and long-sitting tenants in Woodley Estate are under threat of being evicted by Governor Evans Kidero and senior county officials in the Housing and Legal departments. The Governor in the past has managed to get away with illegally evicting and allocating houses,” the chairman of the association Sam Gachago said.

According to the residents, two houses have been illegally allocated to Kidero’s cronies.

“We strongly suggest to Kidero to refrain from these plans which are designed to disenfranchise long-standing residents of Woodley. Any attempt to do so will be resisted,” Gachago added.
