The government has laid down stringent measures to deal with cases of cheating in both the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education ( KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations expected to kick off in two weeks’ time, Education Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang has said.

He said the National government officers in sub-counties, led by deputy county commissioners, will play critical roles to ensure that the integrity of the examinations is restored.

Speaking at Kibirigwi Primary School during the issuance of laptops to Standard One pupils, the PS said this year, students will get the grades based on their efforts and abilities.

Likening the national examination to athletics where some athletes have been found to have cheated by using banned substances, Dr Kipsang told candidates sitting for the national examinations that the era of cheating in exams is long gone, adding that students should work hard to achieve their goals.

He said the government has trust in teachers to safeguard examination papers, adding that it is illegal and criminal for students to engage in examination cheating.

The PS, who was flanked by top Ministry officials said head teachers and principals will play a role in examination invigilations. Kipsang also said the government will, in a week’s time, appoint Special Needs Education directors.

“By appointing a director in charge of Special Needs Education, the government will have demonstrated her commitment to ensuring that children in the sector received all-inclusive education like their counterparts,” he said.
