Nacada chief executive officer William Okedi was yesterday grilled for seven hours by officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over graft allegations.
Okedi, who is facing charges among them abuse of office and flouting of procurement laws, was arrested and held at Integrity Centre.
He has already been charged alongside five other Nacada officers, who are also accused of failing to comply with procurement laws contrary to the Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
EACC had last month launched investigations into the alleged misappropriation of Sh99 million at Nacada. The graft body had also asked Nacada to submit files of Okedi, John Muturi, Florina Mwikali, Zeka Wekesa, Anthony Munyui and George Murimi for investigations into allegations of misappropriation of public funds.
On June 19, Nacada chairman John Mututho suspended Okedi, Muturi the agency’s tender committee chair, Munyui, a procurement officer and Wekesa, a member of the tender committee, accusing them of facilitating the illegal funding of 86 NGOs.
This arrest comes after Nairobi Anti-Corruption court magistrate Lawrence Mugambi deferred plea taking until August 17 because only two of the accused turned up in court last Thursday after it was claimed that Okedi was admitted at the Nairobi hospital.
The accused allegedly failed to ensure that the evaluation process for the provision of the consultancy services for the management of Nacada to civil society organisations was in accordance with the law.
Okedi is also accused of failing to follow proper procedures when he approved a payment of Sh12.8 million to Ernst & Young, which was contracted to manage the alcoholic drinks control fund.
