The backing of Water Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s bid for Nairobi governor’s seat by some leaders continues to elicit mixed reactions politicians.
Supporting the proposal, MPs Kiragu Chege (Limuru) and Mburu Kahangara (Lari) said every Kenyan has the right to contest for any seat anywhere in the country.
Separately, the two also said Wamalwa is qualified for the city job. Speaking in his constituency when handing over a CDF-funded administration block to the board of management of Mukoma Secondary School, Chege challenged aspirants shaken by Wamalwa’s entry into the race to endear themselves to the voters, who will decide who will be the next Nairobi governor.
And speaking to People Daily on phone, Kahangara also called on aspirants for the job to stop panicking and tell voters what they have to offer. Last week, MPs Kanini Kega (Kieni), Ferdinard Waititu (Kabete), Jude Njomo (Kiambu Town) and Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East)vowed to do everything possible to ensure the CS becomes the next Nairobi governor.
“Jubilee is a very organised party and we already know who our party flag bearer...that is why we are endorsing you for the city’s top seat,” he told Wamalwa. But some Jubilee MPs in Nairobi have since criticised the endorsement, saying all candidates should be given a chance.
