Reforms, unrest to top school heads’ agenda

Schools unrest and education curriculum reforms are some of the issues that are expected take centre stage as more than 10,000 primary school heads converge for the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (Kepsha) annual delegates conference in Mombasa starting today.

Education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i is expected to grace today’s function at Sheikh Zayed Children Welfare Centre. Addressing journalists in Mombasa yesterday, KEPSHA chairman Shem Ndolo said.

“The meeting comes at the time we, as a country, are shifting to another education curriculum and experiencing unrest in schools. We need to chart the way forward to save the sector’s integrity,” said Ndolo.

Meanwhile, Kisauni deputy OCPD Walter Obondo assured the head teachers of their security, saying all has been done to ensure they will be safe during the week-long conference.

“We have put in place tough security measures. Our men in uniform have been deployed in large numbers to ensure security,” said Obondo. The wave of schools unrest that has seen more than 120 schools torched.
