Olympic silver medallist and world men javelin champion, Julius Yego has been discharged from Mediheal group of hospital Eldoret after he was involved in a grisly accident on Sunday night.
Yego was driving his new Toyota Prado 4×4 at the time of the accident; Yego expressed gratitude to God for saving his live from the accident, which has never experienced before he assured his fans that he was fine.
“To my fans I am okay you can see me now it happens and whatever happened it past but I thank God that am still life and strong and I have never seen such before in my life,” said Yego in a message.
After the accident Good Samaritans led by middle distance star Asbel Kiprop drove Yego to the hospital. “After the incident I came out of the car and at first I thought I maybe had broken my leg but after I felt that I was ok first people to be at the scene were Nashon, Asbel Kiprop,” he said.
Koech Floretius who attended to Yego at the hospital confirmed that the star athlete had been admitted at the hospital on Sunday night after being involved in road accident at about 9pm and is in a stable.
“Basically, Yego had minor bruises mainly substitute injuries involving his neck, chest and legs. There are no serious injuries he is currently stable and I have actually discharged him home,” said Koech.
Koech said that Yego is fit and should be able to continue with his normal duties as well compete as before, because most of the structure of his legs, hands are ok. Yego was driving along Kapsoya road in Sukunanga Annex area next to Moi University School of Law.
His car, a one-week-old Toyota Prado slammed onto a trailer and he was rushed to Mediheal Hospital Eldoret for treatment. Yego who was alone when the incident happened is however in stable condition and only suffered a minor soft tissue injury.
Yego who admits he is lucky to be alive says the driver of the trailer made a sudden U-turn in the middle of the road and he slammed so hard on the breaks that he thought he had broken his leg.
"God is living and great! I'm ok my people! Can’t believe am alive”. Yego assured his fans in a Facebook post. This comes just two days after another athlete; Andrew Rotich was involved in a road accident that he survived.
Kenyans and the sports world have sent their well wishes to the world Javelin champion wishing him a quick recovery.
