National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is set to issue a ruling on the de-whipping of  Cord members after MPs  protested the move on grounds that the law was not followed after they were discharged from their committees.

The sentiments by Muturi came after Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani who was de-whipped alongside Gideon Mung’aro (Kilifi North), and Salid Idd Mustaffa (Kilifi South) said that the letter de-whipping him was authored by Cord yet his party is Ford-Kenya.

“The communication done was from Cord coalition. No communication was done through Ford Kenya which I am a member. I was de-whipped unprocedurally,” said Mwashetani

His sentiments attracted a heated debate in the National Assembly after MPs mainly from the Jubilee alliance claimed that Ford-Kenya is being targeted by Cord.

In particular the legislators even threatened to amend the Standing Orders to ensure that all the de-whipped MPs from Cord are re-admitted into the committees.

Leader of Majority Aden Duale who came to the defence of Mwashetani said  they cannot allow members to be intimidated. He claimed that if the letter de-whipping Mwashetani was from Cord then it was null and void as his party is that of Ford-Kenya.

But Kimini MP Chris Wamalwa who was elected on a Ford Kenya ticket clarified that his party is not being targeted by anyone but clarified that all the issues raised  will be addressed.
