A girls’ secondary school in Kakamega county is on the spot after Form Three and Four students  were reportedly forcibly shaved their hair over alleged indiscipline.

Some  parents of St Agnes Shibuye Girls High School in Shinyalu constituency complained that the administration harassed their daughters and cut their hair by force after they reportedly declined to attend holiday tuition in April.

They, however, said the manner in which the exercise was executed affected their children and that it may even affect their academic performance.

“When the students were told they would have their hair shaved, some of them ran out of the school compound in fright to the nearby Shinyalu market and villages. The school administration however sent locals who caught up with them and forcibly cut their hair,” claimed a parent.

But reached for comment, the principal Victoria Ashiono dismissed the allegations and told journalists to “focus on more important issues and not petty ones like this”.  She said it was the parents who decided to have the students shaved.
