The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said graft cases have reduced by 20 per cent.
Chief executive officer Halakhe Waqo said a recent survey revealed that incidences of Kenyans paying and receiving bribes have reduced from 60 per cent to 40 per cent in the last two years. He was addressing journalists in Kilifi when he opened a one-week workshop on corruption.
“Cases of Kenyans paying bribes has reduced, this is as a result of the commission creating awareness among Kenyans not to buy services,” he said.
He further noted the number of Kenyans engaging in corrupt activities has reduced by 34 per cent and this had further contributed to improved service delivery.
Waqo challenged all county government’s officials to come up with internal measures to help the commission fight the vice among its employees.
“It requires cooperation from all counties and Kenyans to report cases of corruption to save the commission’s time and the tax-payers’ money in unearthing corruption acts,” he said.
Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi who graced the occasion, said his County has formed an anti-corruption complaint committee that handles public queries collected from complaints boxes placed in various departments within the county offices.
The Governor said he had directed all those working for the, county government under his administration to cooperate with EACC officers whenever they needed information from his office.
