The Independent Electoral and boundaries Commission (IEBC) is scheduled to meet with Parliament’s Justice and Legal Affairs committee at the weekend to discuss the proposed referendum law.
The deliberations, which will take place in Mombasa, are expected to discuss the contents of the proposal.
The law, which aims to provide guidelines on future referenda, is currently being reviewed by the Kenya Law Reform Commission.
Ugenya MP David Ochieng’ confirmed the meeting.
“Yes we are meeting the commission over the matter,” Ochieng’ said.
In January IEBC chairman Issack Hassan (pictured) asked Parliament to come up with a bill that will guide a referendum process.
He said the commission is currently applying laws meant for a General Election, which he said had numerous gaps and cannot guarantee a credible referendum.
