Four teenagers accused of kidnapping and killing a taxi driver were on Friday arraigned before a Narok Court. However, the four did not take plea as the prosecution, led by Simon Ihaji applied to have them remanded for 10 days to enable police complete investigations.

Narok Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma granted the application, and ordered the case to be mentioned on March 29, 2016. The suspects, among them students, were arrested in Nakuru on Tuesday night. In a sworn affidavit, Police Constable Collins Okoth said investigations were not complete and if released on bond, the accused were likely to interfere with the probe.

He added that a postmortem has not been done on the driver's body. Okoth added that other investigative issues such as the dusting of the recovered car for fingerprints and visits to the scene of crime, had also not been done while the fifth suspect is still at large and police are looking for him.

The five are believed to have kidnapped the taxi-driver in Narok town and murdered him. They allegedly posed as customers and hired the driver to ferry them to an unknown destination on Monday night, but when the driver failed to return home or call his family, the family reported the matter to Narok Police Station.

Investigations commenced where the registration number of the car the deceased was driving was circulated and a car-tracking company informed. Using the car-tracking system, police pounced on the suspects at Mwariki area in Nakuru on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway on Tuesday night, arrested them and recovered the taxi man’s body in the boot of his car.

The suspects were presumably on their way to dispose of the body. Meanwhile, taxi-drivers in Narok town Friday held a demonstration to condemn the killing of their colleague. Led by their chairperson Kuseiyo Nayeni, the operators marched to Narok Police Station demanding to be addressed by the area police boss.

They said they have been targeted by kidnappers. The area Deputy OCDP Charles Ouma did so and asked them to remain calm as police investigate the murder. He assured them that justice would prevail.
