Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has said its campuses in Kigali and Arusha, are still in operation contrary to reports by this publication that host governments, Rwanda and Tanzania, had refused to accredit them.
The institution is contesting that, the media report obtained from a Parliamentary watchdog committee is not true about its operations in the two East African cities.
“In your Monday April 18, news story report, your paper carried a misleading item claiming that authorities in Rwanda and Tanzania had turned down a request to accredit JKUAT campuses in Arusha and Kigali, again, a story that was totally incorrect,” a terse statement by chief corporate communications officer, Hindzano Ngonyo said.
According to documents presented to the Public Investment Committee, the university is under investigation for setting up a campus in Rwanda without seeking the government’s approval.
