The Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) secretary general Seth Panyako and four other union officials have been given three days to respond to a suit filed against them by the union’s chairman John Bii.

Employment and Labour Relations Court judge Hellen Wasilwa directed them to do so after they were served with the application in court yesterday.

Panyako, Maurice Opetu (deputy general secretary), Asha Ali Ido (assistant general secretary), Joseph Ngwasi (deputy national chairman) Agnes Munderu (national treasurer) had claimed that Bii had not served them with the application and thus were not ready to proceed with the matter.

Bii moved to court seeking to have the strike by the nurses declared null and void and Panyako ordered to immediately call off the strike.

He also wants the court to restrain the five officials from interfering with the smooth running of the health care services in the country through declaration of illegal strikes.
