Now global attention turns to Kenya this weekend when President Uhuru Kenyatta leads the nation and a host of other dignitaries in burning stockpiles of ivory and other wildlife trophies at the Nairobi national park.
The event to be graced by three other heads of state will stamp Kenya's authority in the fight against poaching which continues to decimate the country's wildlife heritage with the killing of elephants and rhinos reaching alarming levels.
But as Karen Karimi now reports the tide is changing for the better as man turns to his best friend in the animal kingdom, the dog, for help in tracking down and smoking out poachers from our game reserves.
