Members of Parliament from Jubilee Party strongholds who failed in nominations but opted not to vie as independent candidates have formed a lobby to campaign for President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The team of 17 legislators has kicked off a campaign to urge voters to come out in large numbers to vote for the President on August 8. On Sunday, some of the legislators, Nelson Gaichuhie (Subukia), Samuel Gichigi (Kipipiri), Stephen Mburu (Kinangop), Mary Wambui (Othaya), Njogu Barua (Gichugu), Joseph Kiuna (Njoro), Jamleck Kamau (Kigumo), John Kihagi (Naivasha), Mathenge Nderitu (Gilgil), former Kinangop MP David Ngugi and Nakuru Women’s Rep Mary Mbugua criss-crossed the Southern part of Nyandarua county urging the people to ensure they come out in large numbers to vote.

Kamau said the members of the group calling itself Uhuruto Express Team have put behind the bitter memories of the nominations and decided to campaign for the President.

“We have decided to put our personal interests aside and look at the bigger picture which is the presidency. That is why we have teamed up to support the President in these campaigns,” the Kigumo MP said in Miharati town, Kipipiri constituency after the group attended a Sunday church service at the local Pefa Church.
