Three presidential candidates among them Nazlin Umar were yesterday disqualified for failing to meet the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) threshold. Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, disqualified Independent presidential aspirant Erastus Masira for failing to avail crucial document.
Appearing before the commission two hours later at 12.30pm, after submitted his papers for verification, a composed Masira waited for Chebukati who is the returning officer for the National Presidential Elections to pronounce his verdict.
The security expert was accompanied by his seconder while the seats of his running mate and the proposer were vacant. While rejecting Masira papers, Chebukati said the presidential aspirant’s Form 12 had no details of running mate, failed to submit a degree certificate, self declaration form and a cheque for Sh200,000.
Chebukati also rejected Justice and Freedom Party (JFP) presidential aspirant Justus Juma papers pending correction of anomalies in crucial documents.
The electoral agency faulted Juma and running mate Mary Wambui academic papers as they were not certified. In the afternoon, controversial politician Nazlin , caused a stir before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioners after she was barred from contesting on technicalities.
Nazlin who had earlier been removed from the list of the independent candidates vying for the presidency, demanded to know from Chebukati why her name had been removed.
Earlier, another candidate running as an Independent Trufena Moraa Ochwani was also barred after she failed to present the commission with a single document.
Moraa who was not accompanied by any supporter took her seat at exactly 2.45pm for his date with the commission. But when she was asked to produce the documents, she said she had come to present herself as a Kenyan. Chebukati told her to leave since she had failed to comply with the requirements.
