North Mugirango MP Charles Mong’are’s daughter and her boyfriend were yesterday released from police custody pending investigations by Anti-Terrorism Police Unit.
Nairobi senior principal magistrate Martha Mutuku released Erisiana Sabiri and Ahmed Salim and directed them to report to the ATPU offices once a week for a month.
The two had been arraigned in court on Friday last week by ATPU over claims that they were engaging in terrorism activities. However, the duo through their lawyer Prof Wilson Hassan Nadwa accused the MP of trying to frustrate their love affair by having them arrested and detained.
This prompted the magistrate to summon the MP and Salim’s parents over the claims by Sabiri that he (the MP) colluded with police to frame up terrorism charges against the two accused.
When the matter was mentioned yesterday, only the Salim’s father came to court. Mutuku directed the MP to personally pick his daughter at the ATPU offices after failing to appear in court.
She further ordered the two not to travel outside the county until the investigations are done. Addressing the media after his release, Salim said he will sue the politician for tarnishing his career and reputation.
According to ATPU investigating officer Sergeant Gitiye Ibaya, Salim and Sabiri were arrested on Thursday at South C and CBD along Kenyatta Avenue respectively. The matter will be mention on June 21.
