Devolution is revolutionising lives of Kenyans in rural areas despite a few challenges, Deputy President William Ruto has said. He said devolution has also allowed Kenyans to have a say in development matters.
Speaking when he met Namibian Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa at his Karen office yesterday, Ruto challenged the electorate to be more involved by identifying important and urgent development projects. He said counties were now implementing projects at the grassroots in line with the people’s needs without interference from the National government.
“The main reason why Kenyans voted for a new Constitution is because resources were not being distributed equitably while others felt that they were being marginalised,” he said.
Kuugongelwa praised efforts being made by Kenya in ensuring devolution is achieved. She said Kenya is helping Namibia come up with a strong and vibrant cooperative movement to help its people access credit facilities. “Kenya’s cooperative movement is one of the best in Africa and that is why we want to borrow a leaf from it,” she said.
