Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura has expressed fears that remarks by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga in France could incite Kenyans against one another as 2017 General Election approaches.
Kembi, who is also Deputy Senate Speaker said the former Prime Minister gave an indication of the issues that may crop up after the 2017 polls.
He wondered why Raila, who was among the first leaders to congratulate Deputy President William Ruto and former radio journalist Joshua Sang when their cases were dismissed by the International Criminal Court (ICC) went ahead to issue a contradictory speech during his tour of France.
Raila had said the acquittal of the two had set a dangerous precedence as it would encourage Kenyans to commit similar crimes knowing that they would not be tried if they found a way of interfering with witnesses and intimidating them.
Addressing journalists in Murang’a town, the Senator said Raila appeared to be angered by the decision when he said that the two ought to have been jailed adding that the remarks were aimed at instilling fear and despondency among Kenyans.
