Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka defended National Assembly minority leader Francis Nyenze’s over the one week ultimatum by Wiper to National Super Alliance (Nasa) saga but reaffirmed his commitment to the coalition.
Speaking at Wiper headquarters on Friday, he said Nyenze, who sits in Nasa’s 12-member committee, was provoked by ODM MP Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem) hence the outburst. “I want to set record straight with regards to Nasa.
Political coalition making anywhere in the world is not easy. Anybody talking of leaving are saboteurs, negative energy and distractors,” he said.
“He (Nyenze) was provoked by Midiwo, whose business is to undermine us, when I asked him (Nyenze) why he made those strong remarks, he gave me that brief,” added Kalonzo.
Kalonzo also wondered why Nyenze’s remarks courted a lot of debate while ODM leaders including Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed have made similar remarks while vouching for ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The former Vice President also said the issue of flag bearer which has seen political temperatures rise in the coalition will not be decided by the committee but the four Nasa principals Raila, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula and himself.
He said the Nasa quartet will before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) deadline go to a retreat where they will agree through consensus on who among them will fly the Nasa flag.
“That matter will not be resolved by the 12-member committee, we agreed that the four of us will go to a retreat to solve the issue,” he said. The four principals will tomorrow (Saturday) pitch camp in Wajir County where they will address a Nasa rally.
Kalonzo was speaking yesterday when he received high profile defectors Winny Kaburu Kinyua (former running mate to 2013 presidential candidate James ole Kiyiapi) and Labour Party secretary general Peter ole Musei.
Kinyua will be contesting the Meru County gubernatorial seat while Musei will be vying for Kajiado North parliamentary seat both on Wiper ticket.
