The recently launched M-Akiba bond has fetched about Sh79 million from 68,399 Kenyans. The pilot bond is expected to net Sh150 million, while the main issue worth Sh4.8 billion will be launched in June.
“Mr Speaker, now ‘Wanjiku’ will be able to invest her Sh3, 000 or above, with no risk to her money and at higher interest rates than those offered by banks,” National Treasury Henry Rotich said yesterday while presenting the Budget.
He said the tax-free M-Akiba bond aims to promote a savings and investment culture among Kenyans by sending a minimum investment amount of Sh3,000 and a maximum amount of Sh140,000 per day.
