National Land Commission (NLC) chairperson Mohammed Swazuri’s fate lies with investigating agencies after a parliamentary committee declared him a hostile witness.

The departmental committee on lands led by Alex Mwiru declared Swazuri hostile and ordered him out the meeting after he declined to respond to queries on grounds that there was a court order barring him from commenting on the matters.

This came after Kieni MP Kanini Kega accused Swazuri’s lawyer Tom Ojienda of circumventing the rule of law yet he is a member of the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC).

Swazuri’s altercation with the committee came minutes after the High Court stopped the House team from discussing the petition that seeks his removal as NLC chairman.

Justice John Mativo yesterday temporarily suspended the decision made on March 28 by the committee to convene and proceed with the hearing of the petition on grounds that the committee is investigating matters that are under trial.

Swazuri filed a suit yesterday claiming the parliamentary committee has violated his right to a fair hearing by not giving him time to respond to the bribery allegation levelled against him.
