Jubilee Party aspirants from North Rift region have lauded the government’s move to bar politicians with fake academic papers from vying for elective seats in August 8 General Election.

Speaking at Chepkanga area in Uasin Gishu county during an event where Donald Murgor, former personal assistant to Treasury Cabinet secretary Henry Rotich, launched his bid for Moiben parliamentary seat, the aspirants said the move was long overdue.

The Uasin Gishu aspirants Robert Kemei (senator), Irene Malel (Women’s Rep), Felix Butit (governorship), and Tecla Tum (Governor, Nandi) asked the government not to relent in its bid to ensure good governance.

Good governance

“We are going to support the government’s latest move to constituteteams that will scrutinise academic qualifications submitted by aspirants before they are cleared to contest in August 8 polls,” said Kemei.

Malel, who is a former Uasin Gishu Knut branch Treasury, said they are willing and ready to assist the state agencies with information leading to unmasking of politicians and top state officers with questionable academic documents. She asked Kenyans to reject leaders with questionable integrity and academic qualification during the impending nomination process.
