The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission - IEBC has awarded the 3 billion shilling to supply a voter identification and results transmission system to french firm Safran barely two days after it terminated the tender awarded to South African Firm Gemalto.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said the decision to single source the tender was informed by the tight timelines to the August 8th polls.
Chebukati spoke as Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i pledged to collaborate with the commission to vet the academic certificates of aspiring candidates.
