Political Parties Tribunal yesterday ordered Jubilee Party to unconditionally accept former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga’s nomination papers for the Laikipia county senatorial seat contest.
The four-member tribunal directed JP to comply with the party constitution and other laws. Addressing the press outside Milimani Law Courts, Njenga denied ever having defected to Kanu and said he is a JP member.
The tribunal made the decision hours after Njenga had visited Kanu headquarters and announced his defection to the independence party. The former Mungiki leader was received by Kanu chairman Gideon Moi.
But immediately after the ruling, Njenga dennounced the defection, saying he had only paid Gideon a courtesy call. He had moved to court seeking to compel JP to accept his nomination papers.
He also wanted the Political Parties Dispute tribunal to declare JP decision to reject his nomination papers illegal and an infringement of his political rights.
