Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has pledged to continue contributing his salary towards development programmes in the city.
Speaking on Friday after his nomination papers were accepted by the head of Jubilee Party (JP) secretariat Raphael Tuju, the senator displayed his Sh1,000 monthly payslip an amount he has been earning for the last four years saying his salary goes towards development, his rescue team and serving the needy in the city.
"From my payslip you can see I earn Sh1,000 monthly and I will continue to help the people of Nairobi once elected," he said.
At the same time, the senator said he will disband his Sonko Rescue Team if elected governor so that he could use county funds to solve Nairobi residents' problems.
Also cleared for the governor post in JP primaries were Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru and former Housing Assistant Minister Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.
Sonko explained the predicament he went through before submitting the nomination papers. "A senior government official had tried to lock me out from beating today's deadline by delaying the issuance of my Certificate of Good Conduct," claimed the legislator.
Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja who presented his nomination papers for the city's senatorial post allayed fears that he had abandoned Team Nairobi for Peter Kenneth's team.
"Our unity remains our matching anthem, people of Nairobi are yearning for change," said Sakaja. Mathare MP Stephen Kariuki urged Team Nairobi to agree and support one among them to face incumbent Governor Evans Kidero.
Bishop Wanjiru who is the MP's mother affirmed that the team remains intact and would win all elective seats in the city during the nominations.
"Nobody should deceive you that Team Nairobi is split, we are intact and we are staying united up to the ballot," she said.
