High court Judge Isaac Lenaola has disqualified himself from a case in which Nairobi County chief of staff George Wainaina is challenging his prosecution over graft. He quit the case citing offending remarks made to him concerning the matter.
“It is unfortunate that I will have to disqualify myself from this case. I have received extremely offending remarks, not once but thrice, last week concerning this matter,” he said.
He, however, extended the interim order allowing Wainaina to remain in office. He directed the case be forwarded to Justice Joseph Onguto for directions on February 23.
In his application, Wainaina wants the graft charges levelled against him terminated for want of proper investigations. Wainaina has since claimed Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko allegedly solicited Sh7 million through two Nairobi politicians to drop the case he is facing, maintaining the money he was to give Sonko was a Christmas gift they exchanged between them over the years as political colleagues.
