Transport Licensing Appeal Board (TLAB) has warned the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) against impounding vehicles using feeder roads to evade traffic snarl-ups.
TLAB chairman Dick Waweru said yesterday that provided the matatus are not diverting the routes they are licensed to ply there is no cause for alarm.
“If a matatu is licensed for a specific route, it has a right to follow any road as long as they are within the specified boundaries,” he said.
Speaking during a stakeholder’s sensitisation workshop held in Mombasa, Waweru also urged NTSA to develop clear policies and regulations.
He said inefficiency is a key challenge facing matatu owners and operators, a situation which has led to drivers being arrested for failure to comply.
