The hearing of a case in which Rift Valley politician-cum-farmer, Jackson Kibor, is seeking to divorce his wife of 51 years, failed to take off for the second time after she burst out and wailed uncontrollably in court.

Josephine Jepkoech Kibor shocked the court when instead of taking to the dock to be cross-examined, she broke down and wailed loudly. She said she was feeling unwell and could, therefore, not proceed with the case.

This forced High Court principal magistrate Charles Obulutsa to halt court proceedings for 20 minutes to allow Jepkoech, who is Kibor’s second wife to calm down.

Kibor is seeking to terminate the marriage to his wife for alleged desertion and cruelty. Earlier in court after taking oath, Jepkoech complained of feeling unwell and sought adjournment of the case to allow her to recover.

“Your honour I request for adjournment of this case because I have a stomachache. I will not be able to stand in the dock for the period I will be cross-examined,” she argued. “She has been here since morning and at no time has she exhibited any illness.

Why is she trying to derail the case from proceedings? Is the wailing and screams she has just made in court portray a sick person?” posed Kibor to the laughter of the court. The magistrate adjourned the hearing to April 1 to enable Jepkoech to seek medical attention.
